A competitive benefits package is often ranked among the top considerations for job seekers. And having a strong benefits package can signal to potential employees that you value their well-being and are committed to supporting them in all aspects of their life, including their health, financial stability, and work-life balance.
Prioritizing the health and well-being of your employees includes teaching them how and when to utilize their benefits. We’ve summarized three benefits that may be overlooked or underutilized.
Preventive Care: Many employees do not take advantage of preventive care services such as regular check-ups, cancer screenings, and immunizations. This can result in undetected health issues, higher healthcare costs in the long run, and decreased productivity.
Telehealth Services: Telehealth services offer a convenient and cost-effective way for employees to access healthcare services from the comfort of their own homes. However, many employees are not aware of the availability of telehealth services, or they may not know how to use them. Create posters for breakrooms to drive awareness, particularly during peak cold and flu season.
Mental Health Services: Mental health is a critical component of overall health, yet many employees do not seek out or use mental health services. This could be due to stigma or lack of awareness about available resources. We encourage our ambulatory surgery center (ASC) and outpatient healthcare clients to use national awareness days to draw attention to the importance of mental health. A few to keep top of mind:
- National Mental Health Month – Observed in May, this month-long observance is dedicated to raising awareness of mental health and promoting mental health resources and services.
- National Suicide Prevention Month – Observed in September, this month is dedicated to raising awareness of suicide prevention, promoting mental health resources, and reducing stigma around suicide and mental illness.
- World Mental Health Day – Observed on October 10th each year, this day is recognized globally to raise awareness of mental health issues and promote mental well-being.
- National Depression Screening Day – Observed on the Thursday of the first full week in October, this day is dedicated to promoting depression screening and increasing awareness of the signs and symptoms of depression.
A strong benefits package can help differentiate your company from competitors, especially in a tight job market where job seekers have more options to choose from.
We encourage our clients to regularly communicate and remind their employees about how to tap into their benefits. Through our Heart of the Business initiative, we provide tools and education to make it as easy as possible.
