Strengthening Security & Navigating Challenges Through Digital Transformation

MedHQ provides comprehensive HR, accounting, and credentialing services for diverse healthcare facilities. The healthcare industry faces new challenges every year – as we’ve seen all too clearly in 2020 – and the technology we use is crucial to solving problems and providing value for our clients. In a series of blog posts, we are highlighting the ways the MedHQ team is focusing on digital transformation to improve workflows, strengthen security, and save time and money for healthcare clients.

Tom Jacobs, Chief Executive Officer, shares how MedHQ is establishing secure, cloud-based, and compliant systems that help healthcare facilities work efficiently and overcome challenges.

“We are very intentional and strategic about the software we select for our main platforms,” said Jacobs. “For our general ledger accounting, HR, and payroll, and the related platforms for accounts payable and employee time and attendance, we’ve selected a combination of programs that are best-in-class but also offer excellent security. For example, since we specialize in ASCs we selected the Sage Intacct accounting platform because we need a solution that is HIPAA-compliant and many other competing platforms are not.

MedHQ has implemented entirely cloud-based platforms that are intuitive, flexible, and easy to use but are reinforced with the high level of security necessary in healthcare. Their transition to the cloud has been beneficial for clients’ day-to-day work, allowing them to store and access documents remotely without depending on a server.

“We make sure we are establishing a protected perimeter around sensitive data for our clients,” said Jacobs. “Not only for the employees who work at their facilities but also the patient data that is in their custody. Our team is highly trained to meet security and compliance standards, and we choose to use platforms that have security and compliance built into them.”

MedHQ’s digital transformation has been even more important as they have continued to provide services to clients throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We had been going down this path for several years before COVID,” said Jacobs. “When the shutdowns occurred and our team needed to work remotely, and we were working with clients who were also removed from their surgery centers, we really didn’t miss a beat. Because our systems are cloud-based and secure, we can do the work that we need to do, payroll benefits, accounting, and also helping with CARE Act items like PPP loans and tax credits, without interruption”

Going forward, MedHQ is continuing to evolve existing processes and adopt new systems to create additional value for clients.

“The platforms we use, especially Sage Intacct on the accounting side and PrismHR on the HR and payroll side, have marketplaces built around them,” said Jacobs. “What that means is they’ve formally partnered with other best-in-class vendors that have add-on services. So as those marketplaces develop and grow, we are able to add capabilities for our clients right alongside them – but we’re also not restricted just to those options. We’re actually in the process of developing inter-connectivity between the two systems to automate further, so we have a road map of future additional capabilities that these systems will have for our customers. We view this as the normal course of business: developing and improving constantly without making big changes to our pricing structure.”
