An Organization Implements a Plan to Become Heart Healthy

For the first year, MedHQ will be hosting the Heart of the Business Conference to underscore its commitment to personal wellness and how it impacts professional health and wellbeing. The conference aligns with our team’s participation in the American Heart Association (AHA) Heart Walk taking place Sept. 20, 2019, in Chicago.

We set a $100,000 fundraising goal for ourselves and working with partners like Root3 Marketing & Business Development, we are on our way to reaching that goal and encouraging health and workplace wellness in the process.

The following case study outlines how Root3 implemented a wellness program and how they are motivating their team and clients to participate in the AHA Heart Walk and raise funds for the nonprofit.

Wellness at Work

“Our mission at Root3 is to generate powerful and positive momentum for business and personal growth,” says Root3 CEO Scott Christiansen, “so by extension, health and wellness matter to us. Our internal Culture Committee was looking for a fundraising opportunity that aligned with our values and the AHA Heart Walk was a great opportunity to do that. But in order to kick off our fundraising we had to get our house in order and make sure that we were ‘walking the talk’ and carrying out a wellness initiative and living it every day at Root3.”

The Heart Walk was the push Root3 needed to launch a wellness program focused on three priorities: Food, Fitness, and Fundraising.

Food – Snacking Healthier

“Everyone likes to snack,” explains Christiansen, “so we made a decision to only provide healthy options. We provide fresh fruits and vegetables every week to encourage healthy snacking and we also provide GMO-free and minimally processed snacks such as nuts and protein bars.”

Fitness Moving More & Highlighting Insurance Benefits

Spearheaded by Root3’s Culture Committee, the team kicked off a summer fitness program with daily fitness challenges. Employees earn points by drinking more water, utilizing their standing desks, going on daily walks, sharing heart-healthy recipes and engaging in exercise goals.

“Not only does our summer program reinforce wellness, it highlights the fantastic insurance benefits that are available to our team,” says Christiansen. “We also underscore the importance of mental health and encourage our team to destress and find support when they need it.”

After Labor Day, Root3 team members will tally their points and be entered to win prizes and plenty of fun Root3 swag.

Fundraising Creating a Healthier Community

Root3 works with a number of nonprofits and has participated in a variety of fundraising and volunteering activities since day one. “We follow the simple adage of leaving things better than you found them,” says Christiansen. “We want our team to learn and grow and we want to contribute to growth for our clients as well as our community. The AHA Heart Walk is a complement to our wellness program and an opportunity for our team to raise money and make a difference for an incredible organization. Our team has many personal connections to heart disease, with two very serious encounters recently, so the AHA Heart Walk is a great fit for Root3. We’re happy that MedHQ presented the opportunity to fundraise alongside their team. Not only are we helping them meet their goal, we’re living our mission in the process.”
